dog on acid — Reduce Me to Nothingness

трип welcomes Stockholm-based producer dog on acid to its catalogue with Reduce Me to Nothingness, a six-track EP that brings together dub-soaked minimal techno and an unusually direct emotional framework. The release introduces an artist whose chosen vocabulary is rooted in personal discomfort, self-examination and the search for release, placing the psychological dimension of club music firmly at the centre of the project.
The EP's titles establish its intentions with little hesitation. “i hate who i am, but i can learn to live with it” captures the difficult transition between self-rejection and acceptance, while “i just want to feel something” points towards the emotional distance that can make even familiar experiences seem remote. Elsewhere, “it's all my fault” turns the focus towards guilt and responsibility. These phrases could easily become overly literal in a less restrained setting, but their relationship with minimal techno opens up a different possibility: personal struggles can be communicated through atmosphere and repetition as much as through explicit narrative.
The dub dimension is an important part of that equation. Space, resonance and a sense of immersion have long been central to the genre's appeal, allowing a track to develop an emotional presence without relying on constant changes or obvious climaxes. In the context of Reduce Me to Nothingness, this aesthetic aligns with the idea of music as a temporary means of leaving everyday concerns at the door. The dancefloor becomes a place where difficult thoughts do not necessarily disappear, but can be experienced differently.
There is a deliberate contrast between the confessional tone of much of the tracklist and the ambiguity of titles such as “lain is lain”. “this could be it”, meanwhile, suggests a moment of possibility without clarifying what that possibility might involve. The six tracks consequently form a loose emotional sequence rather than a clearly defined narrative, leaving space for listeners to bring their own interpretations to the record.
For трип, the release offers a debut that connects the functional language of minimal techno with a more inward-looking sensibility. It does not attempt to separate emotional vulnerability from club culture, nor does it suggest that personal difficulty must be converted into an uplifting message to become meaningful. Instead, dog on acid works within the tension between the private and the collective, the desire to withdraw and the need to feel connected.
Reduce Me to Nothingness is a fitting introduction to the producer's work on the label: a personal, dub-inflected statement that understands the dancefloor not simply as an escape from reality, but as a temporary alternative way of experiencing it.
