With Trece, Umo continues to refine a language centred on control, reduction, and iterative development. The EP’s five tracks reflect a process shaped as much by live performance as by studio work.
Each piece unfolds gradually, with minimal elements introduced and withdrawn over extended durations. This creates a sense of continuity, where change is perceptible but never abrupt. The listener is held within a stable field rather than guided through a sequence of events.
The slow rave concept underpins the project. By reconfiguring rave-derived structures at a lower BPM, Umo shifts the focus from peak moments to sustained engagement. The dancefloor becomes a site of alignment rather than release.
OpenTheNext’s curatorial model provides an appropriate context. With limited output and an emphasis on longevity, the label allows releases like Trece to circulate gradually. Their reception is built over time, through repeated use rather than immediate exposure.
In this sense, Trece is less a definitive statement than an ongoing proposition—one that gains meaning through its integration into sets and its interaction with listeners in real conditions.
