A post-techno identity crisis rendered in slow motion
THE BLACK WARHOLS plays like a decompression chamber after decades of high-pressure techno production. The tempos drop. The aggression dissolves. What remains is uncertainty—and vulnerability.
Oldham’s decision to handle vocals himself on “Rock On” is particularly revealing. His delivery is understated, almost fragile, exposing a human dimension rarely present in his previous work.
“Hexagonal” stands among the album’s most compelling moments. Its abstract structure and alien sound design recall Autechre’s ability to make machines feel sentient.
This isn’t an album about reinvention. It’s about subtraction.
Oldham removes everything unnecessary, leaving only atmosphere, emotion, and ghosts.
